(Harrisburg, PA) October 20:

Early this morning, an individual was arrested for verbally harassing members of Occupy Harrisburg, currently in occupation on the Capitol steps.

At around 1:00 am, a member of the public who disagreed with the occupation movement verbally accosted and threatened members of Occupy Harrisburg. The police were called and an arrest was peacefully made.

Members of the Occupation would like to make clear this individual was not a part of the movement and that they remain non-violent. They would also like to thank the Capital Police and Harrisburg City Police for their swift action in response to this emergency.

  1. snow says:

hi i wish you all good fortune

  2. Brendan Murray says:

    Dear Mr. Snow

Thank you for the good wishes. This is just the beginning of a conversation that has to happen without politocal retoric getting in the way. I hope all that see this understand that we don’t have all the answers, but we do know what makes us all work so hard for this movement. All have their own story and we would like to hear them.

    Solidaity
    Brendan

Long live the Mediocracy!!!!!!!! Power to those without the talent to create wealth. Will you use this power to prevent people from getting wealthy? Sounds kinda like Marxism, don’t it?

  4. admin says:

You mean the money they pass from pocket to pocket? Is that a talent? Hell I know a homeless guy who can do that! He just doesn’t get a ton of money from his parents to do it. – Brett

  5. Stephanie H says:

Iggie B—you need to travel outside of your little box and see the countries where the few have all the wealth. I guarantee you won’t be one of them and then you will know what it’s like to live in a society where there is no opportunity for the masses.

  6. iggle b says:

Still sounds like Marxism — from those according to their ability, to those according to their need. But, without those willing to work hard and use their talents to create wealth, their would be NO wealth for any. Review the history of the USSR for just one example.

  7. admin says:

Sentence one sentence two and sentence three really have no connection to eachother.

  8. iggle b says:

Hey admin, go get yo’ self some schoolin’. Then you can use your learnin’ to figger out what I be talkin’ about.

  9. admin says:

Actually I have a history degree from the university of pittsburgh with a focus on modern European history. So it was mainly focusing on the creation of the EU and transition to the euro but I had(and I’d have to check) 12 credits on Russia and the USSR with a professor who had visited during reconstruction. In fact several planners VISITED Pittsburgh to see how Pittsburgh dealt with de-industrialization. It’s important to remember the USSR had alot of raw materials to run their society they just had bad planners. Of course you can read ‘bad planners’ as power hungry assholes:)

  10. iggle b says:

Good, then you should be able to see the similarities between the “Occupy Anything” movement and Marxism. Here is a link to get you started: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marxism.

  11. admin says:

I’m a bigger fan of Engels than Marx(The work he did on city structure lead to some actual change IMO). I don’t think either one of them promoted *social* movements. I’m just really not seeing your argument. Posting wikipedia links isn’t going to change that. Write a 15 page essay explaining it and get back to me. I think you really need to deconstruct this one.

    -Brett

  12. iggle b says:

I think your mind is already made up and you just won’t be swayed with facts and knowledge.

  13. admin says:

No I just have alot of hours studying Marxism under my belt so I’m not seeing you even try to make an argument. I think you’re just trying to throw out links and insults. I’m not lying to you here if you come down Sunday I can show you a copy of my transcript. I *MIGHT* even still have my papers on it.

  14. iggle b says:

Marxist said and I QUOTE: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. That’s what Occupy Anything is proposing — taking the power (and money) from the more rich and giving it to the less rich. I think that’s about as simple as I can make it for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_each_according_to_his_ability,_to_each_according_to_his_need

Anyway, I am done for now. Good luck with your occupying things.

  15. admin says:

    Thanks for the well wishes!

  16. iggle b says:

One last question. Do you vote in every election?

  17. admin says:

All except primaries when I’m registered independent but I usually switch if it’s important. Like last time I switched to democrat to vote in the primary. I actually usually canvass for elections. I’ve probably put over 5,000 miles on my cars canvassing on my own dime. To be fair, alot of that was in Iowa:)

  18. admin says:

Oh and I’ll probably switch to republican for this primary so I can vote for Hermain Cain. I *MIGHT* miss this November because I’ll be in Ohio covering Issue 2. But it’ll be the first election I’ve missed in uhmm…I think I didn’t vote in the Kerry primary? Because by the time it got to PA I didn’t think it mattered. I’ve changed my view since then obviously.

    You?
